About NL Tax Calculator

Built to make Dutch income tax understandable for everyone living and working in the Netherlands.

Why this site exists

Dutch tax is genuinely complex. Box 1, Box 2, Box 3, the 30% ruling, eigenwoningforfait, heffingskortingen, toeslagen: each term is a real calculation that changes what you pay or get back. The official pages are authoritative but dense, and most online calculators give one final number without showing how it was reached.

NL Tax Calculator was built to give anyone in the Netherlands - whether you are an employee, a freelancer, a homeowner, or newly arrived - a clear, accurate, free estimate of their Dutch tax position. No sign-up required for the main calculator. No guesswork about which boxes apply.

LinkedIn profile

I'm Amit Singla, an expat living and working in the Netherlands. I built NL Tax Calculator after going through the same confusion this site is meant to solve: working out Box 1, Box 3 and the 30% ruling from scratch, with tools that gave a number but never showed how it was reached.

I am not a registered belastingadviseur, and the site does not claim to be one. Every rate comes from Belastingdienst publications, and each guide article lists the official pages it is based on. For a filed return, a dispute with the Belastingdienst or an unusual cross-border situation, talk to a registered adviser.

Our approach

Every rate, threshold, and bracket is sourced from official Belastingdienst publications. Rates are updated each year when the Prinsjesdag budget is published. We label estimates clearly as estimates - Dutch tax depends on your full personal situation, and no calculator replaces a qualified tax adviser for complex cases.

The site is available in English and Dutch. Where the calculator simplifies a rule (for example the extra credits after AOW age), it says so next to the result, so you know what is and is not included.

How accuracy is verified

Every rate and bracket comes directly from official Belastingdienst publications, not from a blog post or a guess - see the full calculator, where every calculation opens into a step-by-step ledger showing exactly which rule produced which number, plus an AI method review that separately checks the calculation approach itself for anything that looks off before you trust the result.

Rates are updated every year when the Prinsjesdag budget is published, and past tax years stay available so you can compare year over year. If you ever spot a number that looks wrong, the contact email below comes straight to me.
