Before you sign a settlement agreement

  • It says the employer took the initiative and you are not to blame: without that, UWV can refuse WW.
  • Don't resign yourself: that usually means no WW.
  • Check the end date respects your notice period, or WW starts later.
  • You can still withdraw within 14 days of signing (21 days if the agreement doesn't mention it).
  • With a highly skilled migrant permit or Blue Card: the search period runs from the end date, and freelancing or a job with a non-recognised employer doesn't count.

Estimates from the 2026 rules: the statutory transition payment (an employer can pay more), UWV's WW rules for duration and amount, the IND search period and the 30% ruling's 3-month window. UWV decides your WW from its own records; the IND and the Belastingdienst decide on your permit and ruling. Before you sign a settlement agreement, have it checked by an employment lawyer; many legal-aid insurances cover this.
