Open a step for the sum with your figures, what the step does, and what the Dutch terms mean.
What this step does: Not all of your gross salary is taxed: your own pension contribution is taken off first, and with the 30% ruling the tax-free part too. Holiday allowance counts as salary.
What this step does: Box 1 is the tax on income from work and your home. The income is cut into brackets and each slice is taxed at its own rate, so a raise never lowers your net pay through the brackets alone. Then the tax credits (heffingskortingen) are taken off the tax itself.
What this step does: What reaches your bank account: gross salary minus the income tax after tax credits. In practice your employer withholds this every month as wage tax (loonheffing).
Why is my actual payslip different from this estimate?
Real payroll also accounts for pension scheme specifics, the loonheffingskorting toggle, health-insurance employer contributions, and sometimes a 13th month or bonus. This tool is a simplified estimate for one income source only.
Does pension contribution really reduce my tax?
Yes, pension contributions are deducted from your salary before income tax is calculated, which is why they lower your taxable base here.

Simplified estimate: assumes standard payroll withholding with no other income or deductions. The 30% ruling here makes 30% of salary tax-free, capped at the maximum allowance for the year (€78,600 in 2026). Close to the salary norm the tax-free part is reduced so the taxable salary stays above it; the duration and the (phasing-out) partial non-resident status are not checked.
