What changes on 1 January 2027

  1. Until 2026
    Net metering

Electricity you feed back is deducted one-to-one from what you use, including energy tax.

  2. 1 Jan 2027
    Net metering ends

You buy power at the full price and get a lower feed-in compensation for what you return.

  3. Since 2023
0% VAT on home solar panels

Panels and installation on or near homes are VAT-free.

How to get the most from your panels

  1. 1
    Use your own power

Run the washing machine, dishwasher and EV charging when the sun shines.

  2. 2
    Check feed-in costs

Many suppliers charge a fee for power you return. Compare suppliers on this point.

  3. 3
    Consider a dynamic contract

Lets you use cheap hours, but returning power at midday can earn very little or even cost money.

  4. 4
    Think about a battery carefully

It stores your midday surplus for the evening. Do the sums on your own usage before buying.

Is it still worth it?

Usually yes

When you use a large share of your own power during the day, or have an EV or heat pump.

Less clear

When you are away all day and return most of your production to the grid.

Apartments

Ask your VvE about shared panels, or join an energy cooperative.
